An Alabama man is facing drug and weapons charges after he allegedly pointed a gun at another driver during a road rage incident.
Coweta County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched on the evening of March 18 after a driver reported that a fellow motorist had pointed a gun at them while they were traveling north on I-85. They said the incident began when the victim, who was behind the suspect when traffic suddenly slowed, got too close to his bumper before stopping. According to the sheriff’s report, the suspect merged into another lane, rolling down the window of his white Chevrolet Impala and pointing his finger as the victim passed. The suspect then began closely following the victim’s car, brandishing a silver and black pistol.
“(The victim) braked, and he merged over and then almost ran them off the road when he cut them off in traffic,” the report stated.
The victim – who had a child in the back seat during the entire incident, according to the report – then called 911 while chasing the Impala until the suspect reached unsafe speeds, reportedly exceeding 100 mph.
With Georgia State Patrol backup, Coweta deputies performed a felony traffic stop near Palmetto. The Impala’s driver, identified as 28-year-old Rasheed Hakeem Williams of Montgomery, reportedly complied with orders to exit the Impala but locked and shut the door instead of leaving it open as commanded. He was taken into custody with a fully loaded pistol magazine and more than $3,500 in cash in his pocket, according to the report.
When deputies went to clear the vehicle, they allegedly smelled marijuana inside. A search uncovered five packages of marijuana, commercial-style packaging supplies, a scale, a cutting tray, a roller, a blunt cutter and a marijuana-stained bag.
According to the report, deputies also discovered a 9 mm pistol matching the victim’s description – with a fully loaded magazine and a round in the chamber – along with a loaded, modified AR-15, four additional magazines and three boxes of ammunition.
After being read his Miranda warning, Williams refused to speak to deputies. However, he allegedly made several alarming statements as he was being transported to the Coweta County Jail, including that he intended to move back to Jamaica as soon as he was released from jail, because he owns land and “no United States police or British police can touch him there.”
Williams allegedly threatened to use discovery to “find out who told on him,” said it would be easy to beat the charges and asked personal questions about the family of a deputy.
“Then he laughed and said he could not get in trouble for his thoughts,” the report stated.
Williams’ passport was placed with the rest of his property.
He is charged with pointing a gun at another and manufacturing, distribution and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
