Dear Write to Know: Now that the weather is warming up, I want to start walking my dog in the woods. Can you provide information about tick control? Thanks.

Dear R.J.: According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), remember to walk in the center of trails when in the woods. Use repellent that contains 20 percent or more DEET, picaridin, or IR3535 on exposed skin for protection that lasts several hours. Always follow product instructions. Remember to wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts. You should also bathe or shower as soon as possible after coming indoors (preferably within two hours) to wash off and more easily find ticks that are crawling on you. You should also check your dog for ticks daily. Hope this helps to answer your question.

Dear Write to Know: I'm looking for a decent metal detector so I can take my grandkids on a treasure hunt in my backyard and woods to see if we can locate some of the items (wrenches, screwdrivers, toys, whatever) that my kids never returned to my garage or workbench. 508-255-3672.

Dear J.H.: We hope one of our generous readers can help you out with a metal detector. Thanks for providing your telephone number.

Dear Write to Know: I recently had a total knee replacement surgery. I'm on the lookout for a bike to aid in a rehab exercise routine. Any leads on one that is available would be appreciated. Contact me at wohlboldwayne@gmail.com.

Dear W.W.: Hopefully, you will get some emails. Best of luck!

Dear Write to Know: Last week you printed spring cleaning tips for the inside of the house. Do you have any tips for sprucing up lawn furniture? Thanks.

Dear H.V.: According to www.homedepot.com, start with a garden hose fitted with a spray nozzle. Set the nozzle on its strongest setting and spray directly onto the pieces to loosen and remove dust and dirt. Mix ¼ cup liquid dishwashing soap with water in a cleaning bucket. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Dampen a soft cleaning cloth or sponge in the soapy bucket. Wipe down the furniture with the cloth or sponge, scrubbing as necessary. Rinse the furniture by spraying with the garden hose. Be sure to regularly clean your pieces throughout the season to prevent caked-on dirt and grime. Note: If you have cleaning instructions that came with your patio furniture, follow them.

Dear Write to Know: Over the winter I found several items that might be valuable. These include paintings and furniture. Where should I go for an appraisal? Thanks for your help.

Dear F.B.: Antiques dealers may be interested in purchasing your collections. As we recommended to another person recently, the Cape Cod Antique Dealers Association offers information on businesses or individuals who could help you: http://www.ccada.com. You can find a link to their Members Directory on their website. For more information, call 508-760-3290. You can also try Eldred's Auction Gallery, 1483 Route 6A, Dennis.
