Sands Agricultural Machinery has introduced a new flagship self-propelled sprayer with the option of 5,000- or 6,000-litre stainless-steel tanks and booms up to 40m wide.

Dubbed the Infinity, this premium range offers a several upgrades over the Norfolk maker’s Horizon machines.

These start with the chassis, which has been reworked to accommodate smoother independent suspension and larger 38in row-crop wheels, as well as increasing underbelly clearance to 1.2m.

Work has also been carried out on the steering system, which now has a turning circle of 7.6m and multiple modes of engagement.

These include speed-related switching of the four-wheel steering, true tracking so that the rear wheels follow the same arc as the fronts, and maximum turn which tightens the turning circle down to 7.6m.

Power still comes from a 242hp Deutz six-cylinder engine, but there is a new single-speed hydrostatic transmission with 50kph top speed and heavy-duty Bosch Rexroth wheel motors rather than Poclain.

With these comes a boosted braking function and a traction control system that can redistribute oil flow to the wheels with the most grip.

There are also eco settings for both road and field mode to help reduce fuel use.

Several modifications have been made to the spray tank, most notably a move away from GRP to stainless-steel tanks made by Watson and Brookman.

The Infinity is being offered with either a 5,000- or 6,000-litre vessel, both of which feature larger sumps and fixed internal pipework. The only moving parts are six internal cleaning nozzles.

Other changes include re-engineered steel booms which are stronger and lighter than before.

These are offered in 24m to 40m widths and have the option of Norac boom levelling, or the firm’s own six-sensor system.

Tweaks have also been made to the side filling station, which features a 40-litre stainless-steel induction hopper with twin rinse nozzles (also made by Watson and Brookman), a hose gun, electronic control panel, and 3in fast-fill port rated to 1,000-litres/min.

The cab is the same as that used on the Horizon, but the armrest has been updated to put controls closer to hand, and there is a new overhead display for controlling machine functions.

Buyers are then free to spec a spray controller and navigation system of their choice.

Starting prices for the Infinity are £210,000 with a 5,000-litre tank and £250,000 for the 6,000-litre model.

Initially, Sands will offer buyers the option of 5,000- and 6,000-litre machines in both the Horizon and Infinity ranges but, eventually, the larger Horizon models will be phased out.
