Dan Lehman literally had his bags packed after his big game for the Redstone Fire Department’s softball team.
“I’m going to Disney World,” he said. Of course, he was joking but he did lead the offense.
Lehman had four hits and drove in five runs as Guns n’ Hoses beat Spaceballs Too 17-7 on July 26 at NASA field 1. They play in the open recreational division of the Marshall league.
Batting seventh in the lineup, Lehman went 4-for-4 with a double. His bases-loaded double with two outs in the fourth cleared the bases. The fire department’s battalion chief played right center.
“I saw the ball real good. I hit the ball real good which drove in the runs,” Lehman said.
Dan Neglia homered to lead off the bottom of the third for Guns n’ Hoses (3-5-2). Fire Chief Ragnar Opiniano, player/captain Cody Payne and Kevin Fair had three hits apiece. Derek Santiago, Neglia, Rob Morehead and pitcher Bennie Pokemire added two hits apiece.
Pokemire scattered 10 hits for seven runs, three earned, with one strikeout and two walks in five innings for the win.
“It seems that we finally played to our potential,” Payne, the first baseman, said. “We’ve had some games that we haven’t played very well. But today we put it all together.”
Leadoff hitter Jim Jones had two hits and scored twice for Spaceballs Too (0-10). John Seigh took the loss.
“It was a good game,” Spaceballs Too player/acting captain Sarah Lyles said. “They just hit well at the end.”
