2018 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited as tested by MLive's Benjamin Raven.
DETROIT -- Hyundai is recalling an estimated 215,000 vehicles due to an issue that can lead to an increased risk of fire. The Korean automaker revealed in documents posted Wednesday that a low pressure fuel hose can crack due to heat from the engine and if that happens, fuel can leak which increases the risk of fire, according to the Associated Press.
The recall impacts certain 2013 and 2014 Sonata sedans, including many that were recalled in 2020 for the same issue. In that recall, dealerships inspected the hoses for damage and replaced the hoses if necessary. If the hoses were not damaged, heat-resistant tape was installed on the hoses.
For the most recent recall all of the faulty hoses will be replaced. Hyundai says it’s aware of 138 reports of problems in the U.S., but no confirmed crashes, fires or injuries, the AP reports.
Owners of impacted Hyundai models will begin being notified starting on July 5.
